Seven Professors Join Darden for New Academic Year
As the summer draws to a close, business schools are welcoming their new faculty cohorts to campus for the new academic year. At University of Virginia’s Darden School of Business, seven new professors are joining the school for 2019-2020.
Two of these professors are in the area of Strategy, Ethics and Entrepreneurship.
One of those is Yo-Jud Cheng, who has a DBA from Harvard Business School. Cheng studies corporate governance and management teams.
The other is Dennie Kim, who has been focusing on how society-wide factors influence cooperation between organizations. Kim recently received a PhD from University of Minnesota’s Carlson School of Management.
Darden is also getting a pair of new professors in the area of Technology and Operations.
Vidya Mani, a specialist in supply chain management, comes to Darden from Penn State’s Smeal College of Business. Panayotis Markou’s research looks at how organizations can manage disruptive risks, and his appointment at Darden follows a postdoc at University of Cambridge’s Judge Business School.
There are three professors in other areas who Darden is bringing on this year.
Gaurav Chiplunkar is joining the Global Economies and Markets area after completing an economics PhD at Yale University. His research has looked at how industrial policies and labor market variables influence organization and worker behavior.
James Naughton joins Darden’s Accounting area after being a professor at Northwestern University’s Kellogg School of Management.
Naughton has a DBA from Harvard Business School and a JD from Harvard Law School. He has explored the economic choices and financial disclosures organizations choose to make, and the institutional and regulatory context that influences those.
Finally, Laura Morgan Roberts is a new professor of practice in Darden’s Leadership and Organizational Behavior area. Roberts’s research involves the role of race in workplace identity, and the intersection of leadership and race. She has a PhD from the University of Michigan.
The arrival of these seven professors highlights one of the key advantages of top business schools: they attract a highlight qualified pool of faculty members, which shapes the kind of experience students have.
